The Maiden Benten and the Bandits of the White Waves Banner

TaikoVentures’ senior vocationist, Kenny Endo, will be once again, lending his kabuki percussion expertise to the popular kabuki play, The Maiden Benten and the Bandits of the White Waves. Additionally, Kenny will be playing Ichiban Daiko ( “first drum”) before the play; traditionally, this is played in the morning to signal to the audience that there will be a performance that day.

Created in collaboration with master artists from Japan, notably Ichikawa Monnosuke VIII, who have graciously agreed to share their knowledge of this traditional performance art with the UH Mānoa community. University of Hawaii’s Department of Theatre and Dance production of The Maiden Benten and the Bandits of the White Waves, commonly known as Benten Kozō, celebrating the 100th year anniversary of English-language Kabuki ever performed in Hawaii.

Times: April 19-20 & 26-28, 2024 – FRI/SAT 7:30pm & SUN 2:00pm HST
Pre-Show Chats: 6:45pm HST before Saturday 4/20 & 4:27 performances
